Children are precious gifts from the Heavens whom have a genuine innocence sprinkled with a pure naivety. One of a child’s greatest attributes is their innate ability to believe in the impossible, envision and co-habitat in imaginary lands where wizards/ super heroes exist, a place where Twizzler swirled roses grow and cotton candy sleepy-hollow trees blow. Studies have concluded; it is this pure naivety that needs to be preserved, nurtured and protected in order for a child to be given a healthy childhood paired with a fair chance to become a well- balanced adult. Unfortunately, in the 21st century, there is a startling number of children, especially underprivileged minorities, who are being reared in dysfunctional homes where proper/ natural parenting from their biological mothers and fathers are absent.

In response, Dr. Sanji English, Educator and Wilma Wild hair founder, has ingeniously contrived a safe haven for young girls of all ethnicities, specifically ethnic minorities, to be free-spirited, self- reliant, confident and secure with themselves. This blooming new movement is embodied by an 8 ½ year old, bushy haired, afro-puff rockin’ Black girl named Wilma Wild hair. “Wilma is a symbol or representative for little girls to admire and rely on for guidance concerning childhood challenges. When I was growing up, I didn’t have a person/ idol that looked like me that I could directly relate to. So as a teacher/ mother, I’m always being approached by young girls with personal life issues and these girls, much like myself at that age, have no adult or person of influence (regardless of age) who they feel comfortable sharing these personal issues with; hence the conception/ birth of Wilma Wild hair. Wilma’s core philosophy is self- love, self- acceptance and self- confidence. Wilma dances to the beat of her own drums. She’s true to who she is as a little girl and happy,” explains English.

In brief, Wilma Wild hair is a character created to provide young girls with the opportunity to admire a media personality who mirrors them physically and emotionally. Wilma’s focus is to teach young girls how to love and like themselves in their own skin. Wilma showers children with practical insight concerning sensitive childhood topics (from a kid’s perspective) and promotes self- empowerment through a book (chapters) series, community site pop-ups, original games and live webinars from Wilma herself. “This movement is primarily for little girls, however, we understand that boys and older children may also be able to grow and learn from Wilma. We have a lot of fun/ educational programs launching soon. For instance, we have a weekly newsletter where selected applicants will be awarded based on performance in their community, home and academic life. Wilma is young, fun and funky,” adds English.

Much like Dora the Explorer, Wilma Wild hair is an educational tool designed to enhance the lives of “parentless” children. She will teach and prepare children on how to handle critical “school- days” issues. Wilma is ready to add value to the lives of children across the world.
